Joe Namath Early Life
A native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Joe Namath was raised there. A divorced father left him living with his mother as a child. He excelled in sports at school, playing quarterback for the football team and guard for the basketball team.
He graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1960 and went on to play professional football. Many college football programs recruited Namath but ultimately chose to attend Alabama.
When he first arrived in Alabama, his scores were just below the school’s requirements, so he was initially rejected by the school. However, Coach Paul Bryant recruited him and he eventually accepted a scholarship to attend Alabama. Bryant stated that this was “the best coaching decision I ever made.”
